From going online to living online

12 Jun

Over the next 10 years, many will participate in a shift from just going online to living online. We once thought of going online as dialing-in with a modem. That has been replaced with computers that are essentially always online with broadband connections.

Have you noticed the drop in desktop PC sales as a percentage of overall PC sales vs. the laptop. People are moving more towards a laptop with wireless connection now.

By 2016 more devices will have the internet imbedded, so it won’t be a concept of “getting online” – because a lot of things will be “living online”.

“Along with a change of mindset will be a generational shift. By the year 2016, no one under the age of forty will remember a world without personal computers. The average twenty year old will find it hard to imagine a time when there wasn’t any email to check or Web sites to visit. When we reach this point, even the novelty of the term “Internet” will have long since faded to join such golden buzz-words of yesteryear as “space age” and “atomic”.”
